“Everyone at Home Has Become a Bowling Coach” – Arshdeep Singh

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh recently shared a humorous insight into his family life, saying that everyone at home has turned into his personal bowling coach. According to him, he receives fewer messages from his official coach and more from his family. Half an hour after a match ends, texts start pouring in from his dad, mom, Baljeet Kaur, and even his sister Gurleen Kaur, who often teases him: “You knew you shouldn’t have conceded that six—why didn’t you bowl a yorker?”

Arshdeep joked that his mother has mastered the art of bowling advice, insisting a yorker is the solution to every six. Meanwhile, after a good performance, his father Darshan Singh, a former cricketer who now plays corporate matches on weekends, stays quiet. Post-match, his father even challenges him humorously: “Four overs, 19 runs, two wickets—do better than me!” Arshdeep shared these anecdotes in a recent YouTube interview.

Learning English from Reels and Movies

Arshdeep also revealed a surprising fact about his English: he picked it up mostly from reels and movies, though he continues to read books, aiming to complete ten pages daily. He enjoys keeping his social media content simple and trending.

A Journey Supported by Family

Hailing from Kharar, Punjab, Arshdeep’s cricket journey began with his father spotting his talent at a local park. At age 13, his father enrolled him in the Guru Nanak Dev School cricket academy in Chandigarh, a 15-kilometer journey from Kharar. His mother played a crucial role, cycling him to practice, staying with him during sessions, feeding him, and taking him back home in the evening. These early days were full of challenges.

When Arshdeep initially struggled to make the Punjab team, his family even considered sending him to Canada to live with his brother. However, on the advice of his coach, he decided to continue pursuing cricket in India. Within a year, his perseverance paid off as he was selected for Punjab’s Under-19 team, followed by participation in the Under-19 World Cup, kickstarting a successful career.

Punjab Kings’ Leading Wicket-Taker

In this year’s IPL, Arshdeep became Punjab Kings’ top wicket-taker, claiming 86 wickets and surpassing Piyush Chawla’s previous record of 84. He leads a list that also includes Sandeep Sharma (73), Axar Patel (61), and Mohammed Shami (58)
