The Calcutta High Court has ruled that cricketer Mohammed Shami must pay ₹1.5 lakh monthly to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh to their daughter, increasing total alimony to ₹4 lakh per month. This decision comes amid Shami’s significant income disclosures and ongoing legal proceedings.
Indian cricket legend Mohammed Shami has been given a big blow by the Calcutta High Court. The court has given its verdict in the case of separation of the star fast bowler from his wife Hassan Jahan and daughter Ayra.
The High Court has ordered Shami to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh in the case registered under the 'Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act'. Out of this amount, Rs 1.5 lakh per month will be given to Hassan, while Rs 2.5 lakh per month will be given to his daughter. The Kolkata apex court gave this verdict after the district had earlier ruled that Shami will have to pay Rs 50,000 per month to his wife and Rs 80,000 per month to his daughter in 2023.
Hasan had approached the court seeking compensation of Rs 7 lakh per month for himself and Rs 2.5 lakh per month. Rs 3 lakh per month for his daughter.
According to a report, in the order passed on July 1, the court said, “In my opinion, it would be fair and reasonable to pay Rs 1,50,000 per month to petitioner no. 1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 per month to her daughter to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…”
The court also said that Shami can pay more for his daughter’s education and other expenses if he wishes.
Shami married Hasan in 2014 and their daughter was born in 2015. In 2025, the Indian cricketer faced an FIR from his wife with allegations of domestic violence. The fast bowler was accused of match-fixing. Shami’s central contract was put on hold by the BCCI. The allegations were also investigated by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). After this, Shami’s contract was reinstated in March 2019.
Currently, Shami is recovering from injury, due to fitness issues he did not get a place in the Indian team for the five-match Test series against England. He was last seen playing during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami played an important role in helping India win the 2025 Champions Trophy.
