Ahmedabad Emerges as India’s Sports Capital: 6 New World-Class Stadiums, ₹6000 Cr Sardar Patel Sports Enclave Coming Soon

Ahmedabad is fast transforming into India’s undisputed sports capital, ready to challenge global giants like London and Paris. With the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium already the world’s largest cricket venue, the city is now gearing up for a massive sports revolution along the Sabarmati Riverfront with the ₹6,000 crore Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and multiple hi-tech facilities.
Six New World-Class Stadiums Around Narendra Modi Stadium
The Gujarat government has unveiled plans to develop six state-of-the-art sports complexes around the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. Key highlights of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave (₹4,600 crore, 215 acres) include:
- 50,000-seater football stadium
- 18,000-capacity multipurpose indoor arena
- 12,000-seater aquatics centre with Olympic-standard pools
- 10,000-seater tennis centre
- 6,000–10,000 capacity multipurpose arena and “Ring of Unity” for garba, yoga & cultural events
A dedicated Commonwealth Games Village on 136 acres in Sugdhar-Bhat will house 3,000 modern residential units for athletes, officials, and coaches.
Karai & Bhat to Get Massive Sports Hubs
In another landmark move, a 143-acre international sports club is planned at Karai Police Academy, while an indoor multi-use arena (5,000–6,000 capacity) with retractable seating and a world-class shooting range will come up in Bhat. These venues will host multiple events during the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Naranpura Sports Complex: India’s Largest Indoor Facility Ready
Gujarat’s biggest sports complex in Naranpura, built at ₹823 crore with central government support, is now complete and designed keeping the 2036 Olympics in mind. Spread across multiple blocks, it features:
- FINA-standard aquatic stadium with Mirtha technology pools
- 5,200-seater indoor arena with 16 badminton courts
- Facilities for basketball, volleyball, wrestling, kabaddi, judo, table tennis, chess, sn554 snooker, and more
- Ample parking and six entry gates for easy access
Land Clearance Underway for Motera Mega Project
To make way for the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and Olympic Village, the government is reclaiming over 5.5 lakh sq. meters of land near Motera and Koteshwar. Notices have been served to Asaram Ashram (15,778 sq. m encroachment), Sadashiv Prajnamandal, Indian Seva Samaj, and around 145 residential properties in Vanzhara Vas and Shivnagar Vasahat.
Bullet Train, Metro & Airport to Boost Connectivity
With the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, expanded metro network, and upgraded Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, spectators and athletes will experience seamless, world-class connectivity during the Commonwealth Games and future Olympic events.
