Anahat Singh bows out in Canadian Squash Open 2025 semifinal: Dream run ends against England’s Georgina Kennedy

India’s rising squash star Anahat Singh fell short in the semifinals of the Canadian Squash Open 2025, losing to England’s top-ranked player Georgina Kennedy in straight games

In the semifinal clash held in Toronto, Kennedy outplayed the 17-year-old Indian 11-5, 11-8, 12-10 in a fast-paced 30-minute encounter. The tournament carries a total prize pool of USD 96,250 (around ₹80 lakh).

A stunning run to the semifinals

Delhi’s Anahat Singh, currently ranked World No. 43 and the reigning Indian National Champion, scripted a sensational win in the quarterfinals by defeating World No. 7 and defending champion Tinne Gilis of Belgium. She dominated the match 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 in just 36 minutes — marking her first-ever victory over a top-10 player.

The quarterfinal triumph came on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, and cemented Anahat’s place among the brightest young talents on the global squash stage.

Anahat’s reaction: “I just wanted to give my best”

Speaking after her semifinal loss, Anahat told the PSA website,

“I went into the court just wanting to play my best squash — and that approach really worked.”

Reflecting on her journey, she added,

“Before this tournament, I never imagined I’d reach the semifinals. My game wasn’t going great last week, but I trained for four days with French legend Greg Gaultier during the US Open. I knew that if I stayed focused and worked hard, I’d get my chance — and I’m really happy with my performance.”

Rival’s praise for the Indian teenager

After ending Anahat’s dream run, Georgina Kennedy had warm words for her young opponent:

“She’s had a fantastic tournament this week. I told my coach that she’s such a natural squash player — you can’t teach that deceptive swing and ball movement she has. She might have been a bit tired from all the matches, which is understandable.”

Anahat Singh’s impressive performance at the Canadian Open — highlighted by her victory over the defending champion — marks another milestone in her promising career and sets the stage for even greater achievements ahead
