Anish Bhanwala Wins Silver at World Shooting Championship in Cairo; France’s Clement Bessaguet Clinches Gold

Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala delivered a stellar performance to win the silver medal in the men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol event at the World Shooting Championship in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday. The 23-year-old displayed remarkable poise and precision under pressure, finishing with a total of 28 points in his maiden World Championship final.

The gold medal was claimed by Clement Bessaguet of France, who outperformed the field with an impressive 31 points, while Maksym Horodynets of Ukraine secured the bronze with 25 points.

This silver marks a defining milestone in Anish’s young career, coming just months after his challenging run at the Paris Olympics, where he had narrowly missed the final, finishing 13th. His podium finish in Cairo not only redeems that setback but also cements his position among the sport’s global elite.

A Career-Defining Comeback

Competing against some of the most experienced shooters in the world, Anish maintained composure throughout the intense final rounds. His consistent shooting rhythm and mental focus stood out, earning praise from coaches and experts.

“This result reflects Anish’s resilience and maturity as a top-level athlete,” said an official from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). “He has worked tirelessly since Paris, and this silver medal is proof of his commitment and growth.”

Anish’s silver is also significant for India’s shooting legacy — it is the nation’s second biggest achievement in the 25m rapid fire pistol category after Vijay Kumar’s Olympic silver in London 2012.

India’s Strong Showing in Cairo

India’s shooting contingent continued its impressive run at the championship, finishing fourth overall in the medal standings with five medals — one gold, two silver, and two bronze. China topped the tally with eight medals, including four golds, followed by France and Ukraine.

Earlier in the week, Indian Army Havaldar Ravinder Singh struck gold in the 50m free pistol individual event with a score of 569 points, while South Korea’s Kim Cheongyong and Russia’s Anton Aristarkhov took silver and bronze respectively.

Path Ahead for Indian Shooting

The Cairo championship has reaffirmed India’s growing stature in world shooting. Young athletes like Anish Bhanwala are now leading the next generation of talent, combining precision with mental fortitude. His latest success not only boosts his personal confidence but also strengthens India’s preparations for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian Championships and the World Cup circuit in 2026.

As the championship concludes, Anish’s silver stands out as a testament to perseverance and discipline — a performance that signals India’s deepening mark on the global shooting stage.
