Asia Cup 2025: Unsold tickets for India-Pakistan blockbuster raise eyebrows

In an unprecedented turn of events, tickets for the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 remain unsold just days before the September 14 showdown at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

This surprising development has stunned cricket fans and experts, as the arch-rivals' matches traditionally sell out within hours of going on sale.

The lacklustre ticket demand is primarily attributed to the controversial 'package system' introduced by organisers this year. Unlike previous editions where fans could purchase standalone tickets for the India-Pakistan encounter, buyers are now required to purchase bundles starting at AED 1,400 (approximately Rs.33,600) covering seven matches. This mandatory packaging system has drawn sharp criticism from fans across social media platforms.

Premium tickets have reached astronomical prices, with VIP Suites East seats listed at a staggering Rs.2,57,815 for two, while even the most affordable General East category costs nearly Rs.10,000 for a pair. The steep pricing structure appears to have significantly dampened enthusiasm for what is traditionally cricket's hottest ticket.

The situation marks a stark contrast to previous India-Pakistan fixtures, which typically witness frenzied demand and sold-out stadiums. During the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York, the India-Pakistan match attracted 34,028 spectators, while the women's edition in Dubai drew a record 15,935 fans.

Cricket analysts point to several factors contributing to the slow sales: the absence of star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, political tensions following recent attacks in Pahalgam, and the UAE's scorching September weather. The package system's exclusion of Super Four matches and the final has further frustrated potential buyers.

Despite the commercial challenges, both teams remain focused on the on-field battle. India captain Suryakumar Yadav has promised aggression, while Pakistan's young squad under Salman Ali Agha aims to upset the eight-time champions. The match outcome could significantly impact both teams' tournament aspirations in this revamped T20 format.
