BCCI Poised to Match ₹125 Crore Prize Money for India Women's Team if World Cup Victory

India's women's cricket team stands ready to make history as they prepare to face South Africa in the Women's ODI World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Beyond the trophy itself, a record financial reward awaits the Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad if they emerge victorious.

According to reports, the BCCI is considering awarding the women's team an unprecedented ₹125 crore prize pool—equal to the amount distributed to Rohit Sharma's men's team following their T20 World Cup triumph last year. This landmark decision reflects the board's steadfast commitment to gender equality in Indian cricket, a principle championed by former BCCI secretary and current ICC chairman Jay Shah.

"The BCCI supports equal pay for men and women and hence there are lot of discussions that if our girls win the World Cup, the reward won't be anything less compared to men's global triumph," a BCCI source revealed to PTI. However, officials are wisely withholding any formal announcement until after the final, ensuring the players remain focused without additional pressure.

This represents a remarkable transformation in women's cricket recognition. In 2017, when India lost the World Cup final to England by nine runs at Lord's, each playing member received ₹50 lakh—a figure that would be ten times less than what the current team could potentially earn.

The ICC's record prize pool of $13.88 million (approximately ₹123 crore) for this tournament has further elevated the stakes. Both India and South Africa are seeking their first-ever Women's ODI World Cup title, making Sunday's clash historically significant.

Beyond the financial incentive, this moment symbolizes a paradigm shift in Indian cricket. Players like Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Deepti Sharma have inspired an entire generation of young girls to pursue cricket professionally. A World Cup victory would not only secure historic glory but also validate years of dedication and accelerate the growth trajectory of women's cricket in India.
