Bengaluru Stampede Incident Wakes Up BCCI; Major Decision Likely on IPL Teams’ Victory Celebrations

The stampede, which occurred last Wednesday, claimed the lives of 11 people and left 56 others injured.

Following the tragic stampede incident at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to discuss the creation of standard guidelines for IPL victory celebrations during its 28th Apex Council meeting, scheduled for Saturday. The issue has now become one of the key agenda items.

The stampede, which occurred last Wednesday, claimed the lives of 11 people and left 56 others injured. The incident happened as an estimated 2.5 lakh fans gathered in and around the stadium to catch a glimpse of their favorite cricket stars, leading to chaos and crowd crush.

While the BCCI has acknowledged that the victory celebration in Bengaluru could have been better managed, the matter will now be formally discussed during the upcoming council meeting.

A BCCI official stated, “There will be a discussion on the need to establish clear guidelines for IPL victory celebrations during the meeting.”

The Apex Council meeting will also address the selection of venues for the upcoming India vs New Zealand series. Additionally, a review of the current age-verification process is expected. This system is aimed at curbing age fraud in age-group cricket, particularly in the Under-16 (boys) and Under-15 (girls) categories.
