Chennai is out, and today is a do-or-die match for Rajasthan. Mumbai has a chance to reach the number 1

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, 49 league stage matches have been completed. On Wednesday, Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets. With this loss, CSK has been eliminated from the playoff race. On the other hand, PBKS has entered the top two teams in the points table.

Chennai out of playoff race

On Wednesday at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai Super Kings scored 190 runs, but Punjab Kings chased down the target in 19.4 overs, losing 6 wickets.

This was CSK’s 8th loss in 10 matches. With only 2 wins and 4 points, they are at the bottom of the table (10th place) and officially out of the playoff race. Even if Chennai wins all of their remaining four matches, they can only reach 12 points, which is not enough to qualify.

Punjab strengthens playoff position

Punjab Kings secured their 6th win in 10 matches. With 3 losses and 1 no-result, they now have 13 points and have moved up to second place on the table. They need to win just 2 of their remaining 4 matches to secure a playoff spot on their own.

Do-or-die for Rajasthan Royals

Today, Rajasthan Royals will face Mumbai Indians. RR has won 3 out of 10 matches and lost 7, placing them 8th with 6 points. To stay in the playoff race, they must win today. After that, they will also need to win their remaining 3 matches and maintain a better Net Run Rate than other contenders. However, if RR loses today, they will be officially eliminated from playoff contention, regardless of future results.
