A video of the tragic moment has surfaced, capturing Harjeet's collapse just after reaching his fifty.
What Happened on the Field
Harjeet, a carpenter by profession and father to a young son, was playing a local match at DAV School ground in Guru Har Sahai. According to his friend Rachit Sodhi, the match was being recorded, and Harjeet was batting when he reached 49 runs. To complete his fifty, he stepped out and struck a six, earning loud cheers from his teammates.
However, as he walked toward a teammate to celebrate, he suddenly staggered and collapsed face-first onto the ground.
Teammates Tried to Save Him with CPR
Seeing Harjeet fall, other players rushed to his aid. They removed his shoes and attempted to revive him using CPR, but he remained unresponsive. Without delay, they transported him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Family members were informed immediately and arrived at the hospital in shock and grief.
"He Was Excited to Reach 50"
Harjeet’s family shared that he was passionate about cricket and often played matches on weekends. Since Sunday was his day off, he went to play with friends. He needed just one run to complete his half-century, which is why his teammates had started recording the moment.
No one expected that such a celebration would turn tragic so suddenly.
Not the First Incident of On-Field Heart Attack
Sadly, this isn’t the first case of sudden cardiac arrest during amateur cricket. A similar incident occurred in Chandigarh a few months ago, where another player collapsed during a match.
