Defence is our real strength: Ashu Malik on Dabang Delhi’s mindset ahead of PKL 2025 final vs Puneri Paltan

On the eve of the Pro Kabaddi League 2025 final, Dabang Delhi captain Ashu Malik opened up about his team’s preparations and the positive energy within the squad. Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar during JioStar’s media day on Wednesday, Ashu expressed confidence in his team’s focus, unity, and readiness ahead of the championship clash against Puneri Paltan on October 31 in Delhi.

Ashu, who has led Delhi impressively throughout the season, said that the team’s success stems from a perfect blend of senior experience, discipline, and strong bonding among players. He emphasized that the team is not only physically prepared but also mentally in great shape for the final.

‘Team atmosphere is fantastic’

Sharing a glimpse into the dressing room, Ashu said, “The atmosphere in the team is very positive. Everyone enjoys themselves before and after training sessions—listening to music, joking around, and keeping the mood light. The coaches are also very supportive. After matches, we sit together, talk, and have fun.”

He added that while the players like to unwind off the mat, their training sessions are extremely focused. “During practice, everyone gives their 100%. Our sessions last about one and a half hours, and all players train with complete dedication,” he said.

Leadership and experience

On motivating his teammates, the Delhi skipper praised the role of senior players. “We have experienced players like Fazal and Surjeet, who manage every situation calmly. If any player feels low, the whole team comes together to lift them up. The coach also constantly motivates us, guiding us on what to do and what to avoid,” Ashu explained.

‘Defence is Delhi’s biggest strength’

Proud of his team’s defensive unit, Ashu highlighted how consistency at the back has been key to Delhi’s success. “Our defence has been outstanding in every match. Some players score three tackle points, others four. We don’t rush into tackles—we wait for the right moment, which has helped us a lot,” he said.

Leading from the front, Ashu Malik has been among the standout performers of PKL 2025, scoring 150 raid points in just 13 matches. As Dabang Delhi gear up for their title clash against Puneri Paltan, Ashu’s sharp form and composed leadership will be vital to their quest for the Pro Kabaddi League 2025 crown.
