Sports
In a bold move to blend sport with social reform, the Gali Mohalla Cricket League (GMCL) has officially launched a large-scale grassroots cricket campaign in Mumbai. With over 500 teams and 5000 matches planned, the initiative aims to channel youth energy into sports and away from addiction, in partnership with the Maharashtra Police.
The announcement was made at a press briefing held at the Country Club in Andheri. Baba Inder Preet Singh, spiritual leader of the Satkarmik Mission, stressed the importance of youth engagement in national progress. "GMCL is not just about cricket; it's a mission to steer misguided youth toward purpose and positivity through community-level participation," he said.
Aman Bandavi, Director at Global Midas Capital Fund, spoke about the value of social impact investment. “Sports is a powerful tool for transformation. GMCL is a step toward measurable, sustainable change in young lives, especially those vulnerable to addiction and distraction,” he stated.
Harmeet Singh, Director of GMCL and Pride Academy, elaborated on the league’s focus on mental and physical well-being. “We are tying up with educational institutions to nurture raw talent and promote mental resilience through cricket,” he noted.
Raman Gandhi, GMCL CEO, reiterated the league’s commitment to grassroots scouting. “This initiative is about discovering cricketing talent from the streets and offering a structured platform where they can shine.”
The event also saw the presence of the core GMCL Maharashtra team: Suraj Palkar, Sandeep Maghade, Rizwan Khan, Shashank Yadav, Haraksha Tambe, Imtiyaz Shaikh, Munaf Amirali, Rauf Shaikh, Javed Shaikh, and Haresh Acharekar—all of whom expressed their dedication to this social-sport initiative.
Affordable Entry, High Rewards
The league has set an affordable entry fee of ₹1100 per team, with a total prize pool of ₹11 lakh, including ₹5 lakh for the runner-up. Each team is guaranteed at least 10 matches, making the average cost just ₹10 per game. Additionally, winners will receive a one-year training sponsorship, providing long-term development support.
The inaugural matches will kick off at Khar Gymkhana, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Police, reinforcing their joint commitment to curbing drug abuse through proactive engagement.
Massive Reach Across Mumbai
With operations targeting Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, GMCL is expected to touch the lives of at least 5500 players, reinforcing the league’s mission to foster sporting talent while delivering a strong social message.
