GT vs SRH: How Gujarat's Batters Tackled the Challenging Black Soil Pitch, Captain Shubman Gill Reveals
Ahmedabad: After Gujarat Titans' victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad, captain Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on playing on a black soil pitch, saying that scoring runs on such pitches is never easy. However, Gujarat's top three batters—Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler—have the experience and understanding of playing on challenging surfaces, which is why they have been performing well in this IPL season.
Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs. Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 224 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad could only manage 186 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. With this win, Gujarat Titans have strengthened their position in the playoffs and moved up to second place in the points table. Gujarat now has 14 points from 10 matches, with 7 wins and 3 losses.
Shubman Gill's Insights After Gujarat's Win Against Hyderabad:
Batting first against Hyderabad, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan gave Gujarat a solid start, adding 87 runs for the first wicket. After Sudharsan's dismissal, Jos Buttler and Gill adopted an aggressive approach. Both batters struck half-centuries, helping the team reach a total of over 200 runs. During the chase, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave Hyderabad a good start, but Gujarat's bowlers successfully defended the target.
Gujarat played just 22 dot balls in their 20 overs against Hyderabad. Gill explained, "We didn't specifically plan for this. We just wanted to continue playing the way we have been in the tournament. On a black soil pitch, we knew hitting sixes wouldn’t be easy, but with the way our top order plays, we know how to keep the scoreboard ticking. We never asked any of our top three to play until the end. We're just happy to put in our best performance."
During Hyderabad's innings, Gill lost his temper and had a heated exchange with the umpire. Reflecting on this, Gill said, "There are a lot of emotions on the field. You give your 110% and sometimes, you're bound to show those emotions."
