The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced disciplinary actions against players from India and Pakistan for breaches of the Code of Conduct during the 2025 Asia Cup. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was handed a two-match suspension, while other players, including India’s Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, received fines and demerit points.
The sanctions stem from incidents in India-Pakistan clashes in September, which drew global attention due to heated on-field conduct. In the first encounter on September 14, India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf were each fined 30% of their match fees and awarded two demerit points for actions deemed to have brought the game into disrepute. Additionally, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan received an official warning and one demerit point for his half-century celebration, which involved a “gun” gesture.
During the second match on September 21, Indianpacer Arshdeep Singh was cleared of any wrongdoing, with the ICC Match Referee dismissing allegations of offensive gestures.
In the Asia Cup final on September 28, Jasprit Bumrah accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct bringing the game into disrepute. He received an official warning and one demerit point. Haris Rauf, however, was found guilty again for a repeated offense, fined 30% of his match fee, and earned two additional demerit points.
With four demerit points accumulated within a 24-month period, Rauf has triggered two suspension points and will miss Pakistan’s upcoming ODIs against South Africa on November 4 and 6, 2025.
The ICC emphasized that these sanctions reflect its commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining the spirit of the game, particularly in high-pressure encounters like India vs Pakistan, which carry both intense rivalry and global viewership. The governing body reiterated that all players are expected to maintain professional conduct and respect the sport, irrespective of on-field provocations or celebrations.
These actions mark a continued effort by the ICC to address behavioral issues promptly and ensure cricket retains its integrity and competitive spirit on the international stage.
