Harshit Rana Silences Critics with Stellar Four-Wicket Haul Against Australia

Fast bowler Harshit Rana, who faced scrutiny after being selected for India’s ODI squad, made a statement with his performance in the third ODI against Australia on Saturday.
Rana claimed four crucial wickets, playing a key role in India’s victory and answering his critics on the field.
Former selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth and R. Ashwin had recently questioned Rana’s selection, alleging favoritism due to his association with coach Gautam Gambhir. However, Rana’s display on Saturday proved his talent spoke louder than speculation.
Speaking to reporters, Harshit’s coach Shravan Kumar said, “A good player responds with performance, and that’s exactly what Harshit did today.”
He added, “Harshit knew this was his last chance to cement his place in the team. We spoke to him beforehand, and he said, ‘Sir, this is my final opportunity.’ I told him to trust himself and give his best—and he delivered, taking four wickets and silencing the critics.”
Kumar also emphasized that the selection was based purely on talent, not favoritism. “Young players often face fluctuations early in their careers. They learn, make mistakes, and improve. Even experienced players like Bumrah have tough matches. Expecting perfection every time from a young player is unrealistic,” he noted.
Addressing the critics, Kumar said, “Some believe Harshit got his chance because of a senior’s influence, but they overlook the hours he spends on the ground, the sweat in the nets, and the effort he puts in. Harshit doesn’t fear criticism; he uses it as fuel to get stronger and more focused.”
With this performance, Harshit Rana has not only reinforced his place in the team but also showcased the mindset of a resilient and motivated young cricketer.
