ICC warns Suryakumar Yadav over Pahalgam Comment; Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan face hearing amid IND-PAK Asia Cup tensions

In a dramatic escalation ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 final, India captain Suryakumar Yadav has received an official ICC warning and faces a potential 15% match fee fine following Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) complaint. The issue stems from Yadav's post-match remarks after India's victory on September 14, where he dedicated the win to victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor.

"Suryakumar Yadav's statement was deemed political by PCB," sources revealed, citing ICC rules on non-sporting comments. The hearing, presided over by match referee Richie Richardson with BCCI representatives, concluded with a warning. However, PCB's complaint timing is under scrutiny, as it may exceed the seven-day limit.

In retaliation, BCCI lodged protests against Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for provocative gestures during the September 21 Super-4 clash in Dubai. Rauf mimicked shooting down aircraft referencing Pakistan's unverified claims of downing Indian planes during Operation Sindoor while fielding amid taunts from Indian fans chanting Virat Kohli's name. He also allegedly abused Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.

Farhan celebrated his fifty by gesturing bullet shooting with his bat as a machine gun, drawing widespread criticism. Post-match, Farhan defiantly stated, "I don’t care how people take it. It was just a moment." Both players are summoned for an ICC hearing on September 26, overseen by Andy Pycroft, with potential penalties under the Code of Conduct if defenses fail.

Tensions peaked with Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi's social media post featuring Cristiano Ronaldo's plane crash gesture, mirroring Rauf's actions. BCCI and ICC are reviewing this, questioning if India will share the stage with Naqvi at the final on September 28.

This controversy overshadows India's dominant run, qualifying for the final after beating Bangladesh by 41 runs, with Abhishek Sharma's explosive 75 off 37 balls. Pakistan secured their spot by defeating Bangladesh, setting up a high-stakes IND-PAK showdown.
