India defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the 3rd T20I at Dharamshala to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Abhishek Sharma’s quick 35 and a record-breaking feat by Hardik Pandya highlighted a dominant all-round performance by the Men in Blue.
India vs South Africa 3rd T20I: Men in Blue Dominate at Dharamshala
India registered a convincing 7-wicket victory over South Africa in the third T20 International at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The win was set up by a clinical bowling performance, followed by a brisk chase led by young opener Abhishek Sharma.
After winning the toss, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav opted to bowl first, a decision that paid rich dividends under cold and seam-friendly conditions. South Africa never really recovered from an early collapse and were bowled out for just 117 runs in 20 overs.
Indian Bowlers Run Riot
The Indian bowling attack delivered a collective performance, with every bowler contributing wickets. Arshdeep Singh and debutant Harshit Rana struck early to remove openers Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks, putting the visitors on the back foot inside the powerplay.
Spinners then tightened the grip. Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets each, while Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Hardik’s wicket of Tristan Stubbs was historic, as the all-rounder became the first Indian in men’s T20Is to complete 1,000 runs and 100 wickets.
Aiden Markram was the lone fighter for South Africa, scoring a patient 61 off 46 balls, but he received little support from the other end. Varun Chakravarthy also achieved a personal milestone by becoming the fastest bowler to reach 50 T20I wickets.
Abhishek Sharma Sets the Tone
Chasing a modest target of 118, India got off to a flying start thanks to Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. The duo added 55 runs in just 4.1 overs, with Abhishek playing fearless cricket. The left-hander smashed 35 runs off only 18 balls, including towering sixes that thrilled the Dharamshala crowd.
After Abhishek’s dismissal, the run rate slowed slightly as South Africa bowled tighter lines in the middle overs. Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma struggled to accelerate, raising brief concerns despite the low target.
However, Shivam Dube ensured there were no late hiccups. He finished the chase in style with back-to-back boundaries, scoring an unbeaten 10 off 4 balls as India reached the target in 15.5 overs.
Series Poised Ahead
With this win, India now lead the T20I series 2-1 and gain crucial momentum ahead of the remaining matches. While the bowling unit looks settled and effective, questions remain over India’s middle-order batting as the T20 World Cup draws closer.
The fourth T20I promises more excitement as South Africa look to bounce back and level the series once again.
