IPL 2026 Auction Scheduled for Dec 13-15; CSK Likely to Release Conway, Curran Ahead of Retention Deadline
Digital Desk
The stage is set for the IPL 2026 auction, expected to be held from December 13 to 15, according to early discussions between BCCI officials and franchise representatives. While the IPL Governing Council has yet to confirm the dates officially, multiple sources indicate that these are the preferred timelines
Unlike the previous two seasons, which were held overseas in Dubai (2023) and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2024), the 2026 mini-auction is likely to return to India, though no final decision has been announced.
Retention Deadline and Early Moves
Franchises have until November 15 to submit their player retention lists, deciding who to retain and who will enter the auction pool. While most teams are expected to maintain their core squads, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) may make notable changes following underwhelming performances last season.
CSK is reportedly considering releasing Devon Conway, Sam Curran, and a few others as they look to restructure their batting order. The team also has an additional INR 9.75 crore in its purse following Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement.
At Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson’s status remains uncertain, with potential trade discussions ongoing. The franchise may also release Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, though the return of Kumar Sangakkara as head coach could influence these decisions.
Big Names Likely in the Auction Pool
Several prominent players could be up for grabs this season, including Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, T Natarajan, David Miller, and Venkatesh Iyer. One of the most high-profile names expected to attract attention is Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who missed last year’s auction due to injury but has already generated significant interest from multiple franchises.
Excitement Builds Ahead of the Auction
As franchises finalize strategies and squad plans, the IPL 2026 auction promises intense bidding battles and tactical maneuvers. With star players potentially changing teams and emerging talent entering the fray, the event is set to be one of the most anticipated moments in the cricketing calendar.
