Jyothi Surekha Vennam wins bronze in World Cup Final

Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam won a bronze medal in the World Cup Final on Saturday. She has become the first Indian woman compound archer to achieve this feat.
In the tournament held in Nanjing, Jyothi defeated Britain's World No. 2 archer Ella Gibson 150-145 to claim the bronze medal.
Won a medal for the first time in the World Cup Final
Jyothi secured a 150-145 victory against Ella Gibson by consistently scoring 15 perfect 10s in five rounds. This is Jyothi's first medal in the World Cup Final. Before this, she had participated in the World Cup Final in 2022 (Tlaxcala) and 2023 (Hermosillo), but was eliminated in the first round both times.

Beat American archer in the quarter-finals
29-year-old Jyothi is an Asian Games champion. In the quarter-finals, she defeated America's Alexis Ruiz 143-140 to enter the semi-finals.
Faced defeat against World No. 1 in semi-finals
In the semi-finals, she faced World No. 1 Andrea Becerra of Mexico, where she lost by a narrow margin of 143-145. In this match, Jyothi had a lead of 87-86 until the third round, but Becerra scored three perfect 10s in the fourth round to take a 116-115 lead and won the final round 29-28 to secure her place in the final.
Madhura Dhamangaonkar eliminated in the first round
Another Indian women's compound archer, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, was also in this tournament, but she was eliminated in the first round, losing 142-145 to Mexico's Mariana Bernal. In the men's compound category, India's Rishabh Yadav is the only archer who will start his campaign today against South Korea's Kim Jongho.
