Virat Kohli turned disappointment into a gesture of sportsmanship after Gujarat left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal dismissed him for 77 in Delhi's seven-run Vijay Hazare Trophy win on Friday, gifting the bowler a signed match ball post-game.
Kohli, in scintillating form, raced to a 29-ball fifty—his sixth straight in List A cricket—and looked set for back-to-back centuries after his 131 against Andhra. Stepping out to a flighted delivery, he missed the turn and was stumped, falling 23 short.
Jayswal's 4 for 42 also accounted for Rishabh Pant (bowled), Nitish Rana and Arpit Rana, restricting Delhi to 254 for 9. Gujarat collapsed to 247 all out in reply.
Despite the setback, Kohli presented Jayswal with the inscribed ball. The spinner shared photos on social media, captioning: "From watching him dominate world cricket to sharing the same field and taking his wicket is a moment I never imagined... Getting the wicket of Virat Bhai is something I’ll cherish forever."
Kohli earned Player of the Match for his 77 off 61 balls, laced with aggressive strokeplay after Delhi lost an early wicket.
The act underscores Kohli's reputation for encouraging young talent amid his domestic return to sharpen form ahead of international commitments. Delhi strengthened their campaign with the narrow victory.
