MI New York secured a thrilling win in MLC Qualifier 2, powered by the brilliant performances of the 'double P' duo – Pooran and Pollard. Faf du Plessis' team fell short, missing their chance at the final as MI booked their ticket to the title clash.
In the qualifier-2 of Major League Cricket (MLC 2025), Mumbai Indians New York defeated Texas Super Kings by 7 wickets to make it to the final. Batting first, Texas Super Kings scored 166 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In response, MI New York won the match by scoring 172 runs for three wickets. MI New York will face Washington Freedom in the final.
Mumbai Indians New York won the toss and decided to bowl first. Texas Super Kings lost their wicket at a score of 29. They went on the backfoot after losing the second wicket at 36 and the third at 43. Half the team had returned to the pavilion with a score of 85. Captain Faf du Plessis was dismissed after scoring 59 runs off 42 balls.
Akeel Hussain hit an unbeaten half-century
After this, Akeel Hussain and Devon Ferreira took charge of the team and both shared an unbeaten 81-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Hussain scored an unbeaten 55 off 32 balls. Ferreira played a quick innings of 32 runs in 20 balls. Due to this, the team was able to reach a fighting total. Tristan Lus took three wickets and Rushil Ugarkar took two wickets.
Monank Patel shined
When MI New York's team came out to chase the target, it lost 2 wickets till the score of 43. However, Monank Patel and captain Nicholas Pooran did not let the run rate slow down. Monank scored 49 runs and shared a 40-run partnership with Pooran.
