RCB Miss Top Spot After LSG Defeat; KKR, DC Face Must-Win Clash
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s playoff push suffered a setback after a narrow loss to Lucknow Super Giants, while the pressure continues to mount on Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2026 playoff race.
RCB failed to move to the top of the IPL points table after going down to Lucknow Super Giants by nine runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday night. The defeat left Bengaluru stuck in third place, with the race for playoff qualification tightening further as the league stage enters its final stretch.
The result also kept alive Lucknow’s slim hopes of staying mathematically relevant in the tournament, even though the franchise remains at the bottom of the standings.
RCB Lose Momentum
Royal Challengers Bengaluru had looked among the most consistent sides during the first half of the season, but back-to-back defeats have suddenly put the team under pressure ahead of the business end of the tournament.
RCB now have 12 points from 10 matches, with six wins and four losses. The team still remains in a strong position compared to several mid-table sides, though at least two victories from the remaining four league matches may be required to comfortably secure a playoff berth.
The Bengaluru side also missed an opportunity to overtake the table leaders after several results elsewhere opened up the race for the top two positions.
According to match observers, RCB’s middle-order struggled to finish the chase despite a steady platform earlier in the innings.
Lucknow Stay Alive
Lucknow Super Giants finally managed to end a difficult run with their third victory of the campaign. The win moved them to six points from 10 games, though they continue to occupy the 10th position in the standings.
Even after Thursday’s result, Lucknow’s qualification chances remain dependent on winning all four remaining league matches and improving their net run rate significantly.
Still, the narrow victory provided some relief to the squad after a disappointing season that has been marked by inconsistency with both bat and ball.
DC Under Pressure
Friday’s clash between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders has now taken added importance for both teams.
Delhi Capitals, currently with eight points from 10 matches, are running out of room for error. The side has only four league games remaining and may need to win almost all of them to remain in serious playoff contention.
Two of those fixtures are against Kolkata, making the immediate contest even more crucial.
Sources around the team indicated that Delhi’s management is treating the remaining games as virtual knockouts. The side also faces a difficult away fixture against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala later in the week.
A defeat against Kolkata could leave Delhi depending heavily on other results.
KKR Eye Home Advantage
Kolkata Knight Riders are in a slightly better position but still face a difficult path. The franchise has collected seven points from nine matches and has five league games left.
KKR’s upcoming schedule includes matches against Delhi, Bengaluru, Gujarat and Mumbai — all teams still in contention for playoff spots.
However, the side will take confidence from the fact that three of their final matches are scheduled at home, where conditions are expected to favour them.
Team insiders believe consistency rather than individual brilliance will decide Kolkata’s campaign from here.
Orange Cap Battle
The Orange Cap standings remain unchanged for now, with Heinrich Klaasen continuing at the top of the run-scoring charts.
The Hyderabad batter has amassed 494 runs in 11 matches, including five half-centuries this season. He is followed closely by teammate Abhishek Sharma, who has scored 475 runs.
Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul remains firmly in contention with 445 runs and is now just 49 runs away from taking over the Orange Cap lead.
Purple Cap Race Tightens
In the bowling charts, Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to lead the Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets in 10 matches for Bengaluru.
Anshul Kamboj also has 17 wickets and remains close behind on the leaderboard.
Lucknow pacer Prince Yadav has emerged as one of the standout young bowlers of the season and moved into third place after taking his tally to 16 wickets in 10 games.
With the playoff race tightening and only a handful of league matches remaining, every result from this stage could significantly alter the IPL 2026 standings.
