In a major shake-up ahead of the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM), former India internationals Rudra Pratap “RP” Singh and Pragyan Ojha have been invited to apply for positions on the National Selection Committee chaired by Ajit Agarkar.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is poised to approve their nominations, succeeding Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath in the senior panel.
RP Singh to Represent Central Zone
RP Singh, a left-arm fast bowler renowned for his role in India’s triumphant 2007 T20 World Cup campaign, will succeed Subroto Banerjee as the Central Zone selector. With 82 internationals to his name—14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is—and 124 wickets, Singh brings a wealth of experience to the committee. He also enjoyed domestic success, featuring in Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy title win in 2016-17 under Parthiv Patel’s captaincy.
Pragyan Ojha as South Zone Selector
Pragyan Ojha, whose hallmark was left-arm spin, is set to fill the South Zone vacancy left by S Sharath. Ojha claimed 144 wickets across formats 113 in Tests and memorably took a 10-wicket haul in Sachin Tendulkar’s final Test. He excelled in domestic cricket for Hyderabad, Bengal and Bihar, making him a formidable addition to the senior selection panel.
Appointment Process and Junior Committee Changes
Last month, the BCCI opened applications for two National Selector roles amid limited interest. Apart from Singh and Ojha, applicants included former fast bowlers Praveen Kumar, Ashish Winston Zaidi and Shakti Singh. The CAC’s endorsement of Singh and Ojha is expected ahead of the AGM. Meanwhile, S Sharath will transition to chair the Junior Selection Committee, replacing Tilak Naidu.
