Security Heightened in Kolkata for India-South Africa Test After Delhi Blast; Police Commissioner to Inspect Eden Gardens Arrangements

Security arrangements in Kolkata have been significantly strengthened as Eden Gardens prepares to host the first Test of the India-South Africa series from November 14-18, following a deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed twelve lives on Monday night. The tragic incident has prompted Kolkata Police to initiate an elaborate safety plan covering both teams, practice venues, travel routes, and accommodation.

Tight Vigil in Wake of Delhi Attack

Both Indian and South African cricket squads have already arrived in Kolkata, and strict surveillance measures are being implemented at all major entry and exit points around the city, especially at Eden Gardens. Special NAKA checks and increased deployment of officers ensure that public safety remains a top priority. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma is scheduled to visit Eden Gardens on Tuesday to personally review the security arrangements ahead of the five-day match.

CAB and Police Work Together

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is working in close coordination with local police to enforce robust safety protocols for the teams, match officials, and spectators. Security has also been beefed up at the players’ hotels, with restricted access and continuous monitoring by law enforcement. CAB officials and senior police officers convened a joint meeting to finalize key operational details and adopt precautionary steps in light of the recent blast.

Blast Investigation Continues in Delhi

In Delhi, investigators remain vigilant as the probe into the Red Fort blast continues. The explosion, which occurred in a vehicle next to a traffic signal at around 6:52 pm, caused extensive damage to several vehicles. Police recovered explosive chemicals believed to be intended “to spread terror across Delhi.” Out of the nine victims, authorities have identified two, while seven are yet to be named.

Teams Begin Training Amid High Security

As the city stays on alert, both India and South Africa will begin their training sessions at Eden Gardens from Tuesday morning under stringent security. Police presence will remain strong in and around the stadium, ensuring the safety of players, staff, and supporters as Kolkata prepares for a high-stakes international Test match.
