Shreyas Iyer Out of ICU, Condition Stable; Expected to Be Discharged Soon from Sydney Hospital

Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been moved out of the ICU at a Sydney hospital and is reportedly showing steady signs of recovery.

The BCCI confirmed that his condition is now stable, and he could be discharged within the next few days. A medical representative from the Indian board has been assigned to monitor his progress closely.

According to sources quoted by PTI, Iyer’s family members are expected to arrive in Sydney soon to be by his side during his recovery phase. The 31-year-old cricketer suffered an internal injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25.

During the match, Iyer attempted a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey off pacer Harshit Rana’s bowling. While completing the catch near backward point, he lost balance and tumbled, injuring his left rib cage in the process.

Medical scans later revealed an injury to his spleen (internal bleeding), prompting his immediate hospitalisation. The injury is expected to take significant time to heal, making it uncertain when Iyer will return to competitive cricket.

The BCCI said in an official update, “Shreyas Iyer’s condition is stable and improving. Our medical team, in coordination with specialists in Sydney and India, continues to monitor his health closely.”

Iyer is expected to remain under medical observation in Sydney for at least a week before being declared fit to travel back to India. Though not part of the ongoing T20 squad, his absence will be felt ahead of India’s upcoming domestic and international season.
