Winning a Test Series in SENA Countries Is Bigger Than IPL – Gill: Stokes Says – India Not Weak Without Kohli, Rohit, and Ashwin; Headingley Test Begins Tomorrow

India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, has said that winning a Test series in SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia — means more to him than an IPL title.

The 25-year-old stated,
“The IPL comes every year, but the opportunity to play a Test series in places like England comes only 2–3 times in a career.”

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes remarked that the Indian team hasn’t become weak even after the retirement of senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and R. Ashwin.
“There’s no shortage of talent in this team,” he added.

The first match of the five-Test series between India and England will begin tomorrow.

Main points from the Indian captain’s press conference…

A new team will take the field without any baggage
Before the match, Gill said in the press conference that although his team doesn't have experienced players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and R. Ashwin, this could actually benefit the team.
He said, “Our players don’t have much experience of playing here (in England), but the advantage is that we aren’t carrying any past baggage. The confidence built by senior players over the last 5–10 years is what our team will carry forward.”

Gill to bat at No. 4 after Kohli’s retirement
Gill stated that after Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket, he and coach Gautam Gambhir decided that he would bat at number 4.
“Both Gautam bhai and I were clear that I wanted to play at number 4, and he agreed with it,” said Gill.
