The Industrial Health and Safety Department (IHSD) has issued a notice to the management of MSP Steel & Power Plant in Raigarh after a worker died in an accident involving a conveyor belt. The department has sought a detailed explanation regarding the incident.

According to officials, soon after the accident, the Deputy Director of the Industrial Health and Safety Department visited the plant with his team. They inspected the accident site, questioned workers and employees who were present at the time, and recorded their statements.

Notice to Plant Officials

The preliminary investigation revealed serious lapses in safety protocols and inadequate safety arrangements for workers. Based on these findings, the IHSD Department has issued notices under the provisions of the Factories Act, 1948, to plant occupier Pradeep Kumar Dey and factory manager Sanjay Singh Parihar, asking them to respond.

How the Accident Occurred

On 24 November, fitter Laxman Prasad Sahu was carrying out repair work on the injection circuit of the feeding line in Kiln No. 2 at the MSP Steel & Power Plant in Jamgaon. During the task, he got caught in the conveyor belt. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died on the way.

Following the incident, the next day the victim’s family members and other workers staged a protest outside the plant, demanding appropriate compensation and a job for a family member.
