Man arrested for prolonged sexual assault after false marriage promise
A man in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district has been arrested and sent to judicial custody for sexually assaulting a woman for nine years on the pretext of marriage, according to law enforcement officials.
Nine-year relationship built on deception
The victim, a 27-year-old resident of Tamanaar area, filed a complaint at the local police station on Friday detailing how Deepak Ekka, 31, had approached her in 2017 with promises of marriage. What began as a romantic proposal quickly escalated to physical relations in February 2017, when the accused found an opportunity when her parents were away from home. According to the victim's account, Ekka repeatedly assured her of marriage while continuing the physical relationship over the next nine years.
Repeated broken promises
The woman said she had asked Ekka multiple times about marriage, but he consistently avoided commitment. When she finally pressed the matter a few months ago, demanding he make good on his promises, Ekka's response was blunt—he refused to marry her and told her he would not keep her with him any longer.
Police action and custody
Following the complaint, Tamanaar police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During interrogation, the accused confessed to the allegations. He was presented before a court on Saturday and has been sent to judicial custody pending trial.
Official statement on women's safety
Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said the Raigarh police department handles cases involving crimes against women with full sensitivity and seriousness. "Those who misuse marriage promises to commit sexual offences will face strict action," Singh stated, emphasizing that the department remains committed to protecting women's safety and security.
The case highlights ongoing concerns around deception and coercion in relationships and underscores law enforcement's focus on prosecuting offenders in sexual assault cases.
