Power Tariff Hike Likely: Hearing on June 30 as Discom Reports ₹4500 Cr Loss
Raipur,C.G
Electricity consumers may face a shock as a hearing on new power tariffs is set for June 30. The state’s electricity distribution company has reported a staggering ₹4500 crore loss, pushing for a possible rate revision.
Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission has given another chance to the consumers for hearing on the petition filed by Chhattisgarh Power Distribution Company regarding the new rate of electricity. In the hearing held on 19 and 20 June, only a few people reached and the issue of less time being given for the hearing was raised. After this,
the commission has scheduled a hearing on 30 June for those consumers who could not reach the previous hearing. In this, consumers can present their side regarding the new rate of electricity from 11.30 am to 4.30 pm. After this no opportunity will be given.
The power distribution company had given a proposal to the Electricity Regulatory Commission in December-24 itself to determine the new tariff along with the details of income and expenditure, but due to both the posts of members being vacant in the commission, the hearing was not being held. Last week, the state government appointed Vivek Ganoudwale as law and Ajay Singh as technical member. After this, the commission started the hearing immediately. The commission had fixed the date of 19 and 20 June for the hearing. On the first day, only four to five people attended the hearing organised for agricultural and domestic consumers. During the hearing, farmer leaders raised the issue of less time being given for the hearing before the commission. Taking this seriously, the commission has given an opportunity for hearing to the consumers who could not attend the hearing on 19 and 20 June. The commission has scheduled a hearing again for consumers of all categories on 30 June.
