In a first for Chhattisgarh, houseboats similar to those on Srinagar’s Dal Lake will soon operate in the state. Tourists will be able to relish delicious meals while floating on serene waters, adding a unique charm to the state's tourism experience.

District administration will get 18 lakh profit According to the information, the process of running the house boat in Jhumka reservoir on a two-year contract is going on. The last date for operation is 13 August. Taking a new initiative towards promoting tourism, Jhumka Water Tourism Society Baikunthpur will run one house boat in the Jhumka reservoir area.
The contractor taking the contract for the house boat will have to deposit a security amount of 5 lakh. Also, monthly rent of 1.5 lakhs will have to be paid. Due to which the district administration will earn an annual profit of 18 lakhs from the house boat. A project to run boat house and Shikara boat has been made at a cost of 3 crores from DMF funds. However, on the lines of Srinagar Dal Lake in Jammu, five Shikara boats have started running in Jhumka. But with the arrival of rainy monsoon, the Shikara boat has been kept safe. For the first time in Chhattisgarh, Shikara boat is being run in Jhumka reservoir in Srinagar Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir.
