Jagdalpur,C.G
A private hospital has been accused of negligence in handling medical waste. A municipal investigation exposed serious lapses, prompting authorities to issue a 24-hour notice for corrective action
Maa Danteshwari Trauma and Critical Care Hospital, a private hospital operating in Dalpat Sagar ward of the city, is once again in the headlines. This time the matter is related to burning of medical waste in the hospital premises itself.
When the investigation team of the Municipal Corporation reached the spot late on Tuesday evening, the remains of burnt waste were found covered with leaves inside the hospital. Initial investigation made it clear that this waste could be medical waste from the hospital. When the team inquired with the hospital management, an attempt was made to avoid the matter by calling it old waste.
However, when the investigation team asked to show the actual arrangement for disposal of medical waste, the hospital management presented a cemented pit to the safety tank.
During the investigation, when the team asked for a certificate related to medical waste disposal, the hospital management presented the NOC of the Municipal Corporation which is not a valid document in the context of medical waste. On this, the team clarified that registration with Chhattisgarh State Pollution Control Board (CSPCB) is mandatory in relation to medical waste.
