Bastar News: Toll Ban Hope, Theft Arrests & Cleanliness Drive

Hope rises for toll ban in Bastar. Police arrest four thieves. Passport service remains ineffective. CPI submits memorandum on minority attacks. Jagdalpur advances cleanliness efforts.

After the decision of the Kerala High Court, the people of Bastar have also hoped that toll collection can be stopped here too. The people of Bastar have to cross four toll plazas on their journey to Raipur, while the condition of the roads is bad and there is a lack of basic facilities.

Local citizens have raised the question that how can toll collection be justified until the condition of NH-30 does not improve? Especially, people find it unfair to collect toll tax on a remote valley like Keshkal Ghat. People have demanded that toll should be stopped until the roads are safe, equipped and smooth.

Bodhghat police station has revealed the cases of theft in three houses and caught four thieves. Items worth about Rs 8 lakh including diamonds, gold-silver ornaments, motorcycles, scooties, laptops and gas cylinders have been seized from the possession of the accused. The arrested accused Abhay Masih, Anmol Vasnik, Siddharth Vasnik and Aditya Peter have confessed to the incidents of theft during interrogation. They have also been linked to Dashrath alias Binu, who is involved in the drug trade. The police is now investigating the links of the entire network.

Passport service in Bastar is just a name, Raipur is the only option
Jagdalpur. The passport service center opened for the people of Bastar has now become just a symbol. The local office has limited powers, there is no regular presence of officers and applicants are sent to Raipur even for a small mistake. Sometimes it takes 3 to 4 months to get a passport made. People are giving priority to going directly to Raipur to get their passports made. Tour and travel operators of the city also believe that the effectiveness of the local service center is very limited. The public has now started calling it an 'inconvenience center' instead of a facility.

Technical training to Bastar Police to deal with cyber fraud
Jagdalpur. In view of the increasing cases of online fraud, Bastar Police has taken a big initiative towards preventing digital fraud. In a one-day workshop organized at Shaurya Bhavan, Lalbagh, more than 100 police officers of Bastar range were given training on identification, investigation and prevention of digital fraud. ICICI Bank's Financial Crime Prevention Team gave information on topics like debit card fraud, UPI scam, phishing and internet banking fraud. IG P. Sundarraj called it a necessary step towards capacity building of the police.
