Beef Sale from ‘Aggarwal’ Shop Sparks Action Halt
Raipur,C.G
Proceedings paused after businessman’s petition in case of beef being sold from an ‘Aggarwal’ shop.
The Chhattisgarh High Court, while hearing the petition of co-accused Ravinpal Agarwal in a case related to canned beef sale, has put an interim stay on the ongoing action against him. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Kumar Sinha and Justice B.D. Guru has sought a reply from the government and other respondents in this case. The defense argued that Agarwal has no connection with beef sale, he only deals in gym and sports equipment. He said that there is no evidence of selling canned beef from Agarwal's shop and neither did he promote it. The prosecution alleged that the controversial shop belongs to him and canned beef was sold from there. The court has suspended the action while calling for a reply from the government in two weeks.
On January 30, 2025, cow-protectors had informed the police about the sale of canned beef in the North East Food Shop and North East Kitchen Restaurant operating in the basement of Ishwari Plaza in Telibandha police station area of Raipur. The police conducted a raid on the spot and arrested the shop owner Ruby Vanlareg and co-accused Ravinpal Agarwal. The police registered a case against them under sections 5, 10 and other sections of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Protection Act, 2004 and sent them to jail. During the hearing, the double bench asked whether the sale of canned beef is a crime under the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Protection Act, 2004 or not.
