Fake Wedding Card Scam on WhatsApp

Online fraudsters sent fake wedding card links on WhatsApp; victims lost lakhs after clicking the link.

 

An insurance advisor in the capital Raipur has been duped of Rs 4.80 lakh online. He received a wedding invitation on WhatsApp. He tried to open the e-card. After this, his mobile got hacked. Suddenly, his mobile started blinking. Then messages started coming about money being withdrawn from his account. The businessman panicked after seeing the message. He immediately went to the bank and got his account blocked. Then he complained to the police. After investigation, the police have registered a case of fraud.

Mobile hacked as soon as he opened the card

According to the information, Devendra Singh Risam (57), a resident of Rajendra Nagar, is an insurance advisor by profession. An e-card came on his WhatsApp on August 19. Below was an invitation to attend a wedding. Thinking that it was an invitation to someone's wedding, Devendra tried to open the card. As soon as he touched the card, his mobile got hacked. The mobile was not working. Then the card started blinking and money started being withdrawn from the account in different installments. Devendra switched off the mobile, then switched it on. After that he went to the bank and took out the transaction details. Then after blocking the account, he called the helpline 1920. At present, the police is investigating the matter.
