Over 1,000 Licenses Suspended in Drunk Driving Crackdown

Authorities take strict action against drunk drivers, suspending licenses of more than a thousand offenders.

In Raipur and Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, the police are conducting strict enforcement actions against drunk drivers. Over the past 15 days, barricading was carried out at VIP Road, Ghadi Chowk, Tatibandh, and Bhatagaon, among other locations, and checking operations were conducted from 11 pm to 2 am. Action was taken against 91 drivers for drunk driving. In Bilaspur, the licenses of 610 drivers who violated traffic rules have been suspended.

Licenses of 532 drivers suspended in Raipur
The Raipur SSP stated that as of September 15, 2025, action has been taken against a total of 1,277 drivers in Raipur district for drunk driving under the influence of alcohol under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The licenses of 532 drivers have also been suspended.

This campaign is being launched to control criminal activities and prevent accidents in view of the festive season. During a special drive against drunk driving over the past 15 days, 91 drivers were apprehended, including 32 two-wheeler drivers, 45 car drivers, 11 goods carriers, and e-rickshaw and auto drivers. The cases were presented to court under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. All drivers were fined between 10,000 and 15,000 rupees.
In Bilaspur district, the police have taken strict action against traffic rule violators. On the instructions of SSP Rajneesh Singh, the traffic police suspended the licenses of 610 drivers during a checking campaign. The strict campaign against drunk driving continues. Drivers who repeatedly violate the rules will now have their licenses automatically revoked. To monitor traffic, more than 550 ITMS cameras installed across the city are being continuously monitored.
