Politics Heats Up Over Naxal Surrender: Deepak Baij Says “Is the Government Preparing for Jheeram-2?”, Arun Sao Hits Back

The political temperature in Chhattisgarh has risen over the issue of Naxal surrenders. State Congress President Deepak Baij raised serious questions against the state government, suggesting that there might be a “larger conspiracy” behind the continuous surrender of Naxalites.

Baij asked, “Is the government preparing for Jheeram-2? What kind of peace talks have taken place between the government and the Naxalites, and under what terms are these surrenders happening?”

He further said that in the past few months, reports of Naxal surrenders have been surfacing repeatedly, but the government’s role in these events appears suspicious. “When more than 200 Naxalites were supposed to surrender, both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were present in the state — then why didn’t they go to the site? Why was the matter limited to a press conference formality?” he questioned.

Reacting sharply, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao countered Baij’s remarks, saying, “Congress has always stood with those who want to break the nation. What the Prime Minister says is beyond Congress’s understanding. For five years, it was Congress that provided shelter to the Naxalites. Everyone knows Congress’s old ties with anti-national elements.”

Baij further alleged that during the Jagdalpur event, when 210 Naxalites surrendered, both the Chief Minister and the two Deputy Chief Ministers were in the city the same day, yet they did not attend the surrender ceremony. “They stayed for one and a half hours in a closed room at Dantewshwari Airport. The question is—when they were already in the city, why didn’t they come to the surrender site?” he asked.

Baij also claimed that Naxal leader Rupesh alias Abhay has not yet been presented before the media. “The surrender took place in the presence of police officials, but neither any political leader attended, nor has anyone clarified where Rupesh is. The local media has been continuously questioning this,” he added.
