Bangladeshi Entered India by Paying ₹5,000 to Agent; Worked as Labourer in Durg for 13 Months

A Bangladeshi national travelling on the Shalimar–Kurla Express was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Durg for staying in India without valid documents. The accused had no passport, visa, or any legal identification.

According to officials, the action followed a confidential tip from Mumbai Police, who informed Durg GRP on November 7 that a Bangladeshi man wanted in Mumbai for illegally residing in India was heading to West Bengal and planning to cross into Bangladesh. Acting swiftly, GRP officers deployed a team at the Durg railway station and detained the suspect from coach S-1 as the train arrived.

During questioning, the man identified himself as Ajmin Aleem Sheikh (19) from Bangladesh. He confessed to paying ₹5,000 to an agent to enter India and said he had been working as a labourer in Durg for the past 13 months.

GRP station in-charge Rajendra Singh stated that the accused initially bought a general ticket but later arranged a sleeper seat through the ticket examiner. Upon inspection, no valid travel or identity documents were found on him.

Following the arrest, a team from Mumbai Police arrived in Chhattisgarh by flight and took custody of the accused after completing formal documentation at Durg railway station.

Investigators believe Sheikh was trying to flee to Bangladesh via Kolkata and suspect he may have links to other individuals operating within India. The case is now being jointly probed by local police and intelligence agencies.
