7,000 Tons of Rice Tampered in Ration Shops; FIR Filed Against 19

Authorities uncovered tampering of 7,000 tons of rice in ration shops, leading to the registration of FIRs against 19 individuals involved in the scam.
Once again, rice fraud has come to light in the fair price ration shops of the state. More than 7 thousand tonnes of rice stock has been found less than the fair price shops. There is a stir after the shortage was found in the savings stock. At the same time, now separate action has also been taken against the concerned ration shops. Apart from suspending and canceling the allotment of ration shops found guilty, FIR has also been registered against the operators. Not only this, but RRC has also been issued for recovery. This entire action has been done after physical verification of ration shops operating in the districts as on 31 March 2024 last year.
In fact, physical verification was done in the fair price shops of the state under the order of the Food Department. In compliance with the order, physical verification of the savings stock of 13,779 ration shops operating in all the districts of the state was done as on 31 March 2024. After this verification, a total shortage of 7,891.73 tonnes of rice was found in 894 shops. Here, action has been taken by the department against those shops where shortage of leftover stock was found. Under this, the allotment of 101 shops has been suspended. While the allotment of 72 shops has been cancelled. Apart from this, FIR has been lodged against the operators of 19 shops. RRC has been issued for recovery against 94 shops. The Food Department claimed that in order to ensure transparency and accountability in the public distribution system, such inspection and verification action will continue on a regular basis.
