A Bangladeshi national traveling without valid documents was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Durg district. The man was detained aboard the Shalimar–Kurla Express following a tip-off from Mumbai Police.
According to officials, the accused had no passport, visa, or any legal documentation permitting his stay in India. Mumbai Police had alerted Durg GRP on November 7 that a Bangladeshi suspect wanted in a case registered in Mumbai was heading toward Kolkata on the train and was likely planning to cross into Bangladesh.
Acting swiftly, the Durg GRP deployed a team at the station. When the train arrived, officers searched coach S-1 and apprehended the suspect, identified as Ajmir Sheikh, a resident of Bangladesh.
GRP Station In-Charge Rajendra Singh said the accused initially purchased a general ticket and later arranged a berth in the sleeper coach (S-1) by speaking with the ticket examiner.
During questioning, Sheikh failed to produce any identification, passport, or visa. Officials confirmed that he is wanted in a case filed in Mumbai. Following the arrest, Mumbai Police were informed and immediately dispatched a team to Chhattisgarh.
The Mumbai Police team has reportedly reached Raipur by flight and is en route to Durg to complete the formal handover and documentation process before taking the accused back to Mumbai.
Preliminary investigations suggest Sheikh was fleeing Mumbai to return to Bangladesh via Kolkata. Police are now coordinating with intelligence agencies to verify if he is linked to a wider network of associates operating within India.
