Bastar’s Daughter Gains National Recognition: PM Modi Honours Dr. Jaymati Kashyap with Devi Ahilyabai Award, Speaks Firmly on Naxalism

At the Women Empowerment Mega Conclave held in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured renowned tribal artist Dr. Jaymati Kashyap from Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region with the National Devi Ahilyabai Award 2024. After receiving the award, Dr. Kashyap shared important views on Naxalism and education while speaking to the media.

Dr. Kashyap stated, “If education is properly promoted in our regions, issues like Naxalism will automatically disappear. When daughters are educated, they won't be misled.” She also mentioned that she was informed about the award just the day before, calling it a pleasant surprise.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the importance of education in Naxal-affected areas, saying, “It is due to the lack of education that many people go astray. If we prioritize education, such challenges will naturally reduce.”

Torchbearer of Bastar’s Cultural Identity
Dr. Jaymati Kashyap is a vibrant symbol of Bastar’s tribal art and cultural heritage. She has brought Bastar’s folk arts not only to the state level but also to national and international platforms. Her work stands as a model for preserving art and inspires tribal women to become self-reliant.
