 Police in Bilaspur arrested a 53-year-old man after seizing 7 kg beef from his courtyard. Case filed under Chhattisgarh Livestock Protection Act.

Police recover 7 kg meat from courtyard, arrest suspect under livestock law

Police in Bilaspur arrested a 53-year-old man on Monday after discovering him cutting beef in his home courtyard. Officers seized 7 kilograms of meat and registered a case under the Chhattisgarh Livestock Protection Act 2004.

Tip-off leads to arrest

Early Monday morning, police received information that Suresh Kumar Sonwani, residing near the electricity office in Beleghana area, was processing meat at his residence. A team led by Inspector Naresh Chauhan from Kota police station rushed to the location and found the suspect actively cutting meat.

Found cutting meat in courtyard

When officers arrived at the scene, Sonwani was sitting in his courtyard using an iron tool called a tangri to cut meat into pieces. During questioning, the suspect admitted he regularly cuts cow and buffalo meat, dries it, and stores it for personal consumption.

Case registered

Police seized the cut meat and the cutting tool from the premises. Sonwani was taken to the police station where authorities filed a case against him under livestock protection laws. He was presented before a magistrate and sent to judicial remand.

Additional SP Rural Madulika Singh confirmed the operation was conducted based on credible information about illegal meat processing in the Beleghana area.
