Bharatmala Scam: Over 400 Claims Under Review, Notices Issued to Witnesses

The Economic Offences Wing is investigating upwards of 400 claims and objections related to the Bharatmala land acquisition scandal, issuing notices to complainants for their statements as the probe gains momentum.

Investigation is going on in the compensation scam case of Bharatmala project in Chhattisgarh. Four separate investigation teams constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Collector are engaged in investigating the complaints. A total of more than 400 new claims and objections have come up in Raipur and Durg divisions, which are being investigated in detail.

According to the information, the investigation teams have sought documents and reports related to compensation distribution from the concerned Patwaris. Also, notices are being issued to the parties and complainants to record their statements.

More than 400 claim objections in Raipur, Durg division

More than 150 claims and objections have been registered in Raipur division so far and more than 250 claims and objections have been registered in Durg division. There is a possibility that the investigation report can be submitted to the government before the monsoon session of the Assembly.

Know the whole matter
In the corridor being built from Visakhapatnam to Raipur under the Bharatmala project, SDM Nirbhay Sahu and other revenue department officials have got many times more compensation amount for the land mafia. Due to this, the government has suffered a loss of 600 crores. When the matter came to light, the then SDM Nirbhay Kumar Sahu and two tehsildars and three patwaris were suspended in March. At the time of suspension, Nirbhay Kumar Sahu was the Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner. The government has handed over the investigation of the scam to the EOW. The EOW has registered a case against the accused and is investigating. The court had issued an arrest warrant but till now all the accused are absconding.
