Bhilai Steel Plant Served Notice of ₹228 Crore

Bhilai Steel Plant has received a notice amounting to ₹2,28,00,00,000 over regulatory and compliance issues, raising concerns over financial and operational impacts.

Municipal Corporation Bhilai has served a notice to Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) to deposit property tax of Rs 228 crore for one year. 30 days have been given to deposit the amount. After issuing the notice, the tax has not been deposited by BSP. Municipal Corporation Bhilai is preparing to survey the entire township and property of Bhilai Steel Plant. IIT Bhilai is being contacted for the survey. Officials say that everyone has considered it appropriate to conduct this survey with the drone of IIT Bhilai, and talks are going on with the IIT management for this. Some other agencies were also considered, but if the matter is finalized with IIT, then this work will not be given to any other agency.

According to Corporation Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Pandey, the Municipal Corporation has sent a notice of Rs 228 crore to BSP for one year. Along with this, a survey of BSP's property will be conducted. IIT Bhilai is being contacted for this.

The old case is in court
BSP and the corporation are already in the court regarding the old property tax. Bhilai Municipal Corporation had served a notice of attachment to BSP on 27 April 2019. It cited not providing correct information about property tax and also paying less amount of education upkar. Since then, the matter is continuously pending in the court.

BSP took out 6000 pages from RTI

In this case, the concerned department of Bhilai Steel Plant Management took out 6000 pages under the Right to Information. In this way, both are trying in every way to defeat each other in the matter of property tax.
