Bilaspur: Man Disguised as Sadhu Caught Smuggling Ganja, Arrested Along with Woman

Bilaspur police arrested an elderly man disguised as a sadhu (holy man) for smuggling ganja. He is accused of selling ganja in collusion with a woman. Police raided his farm and recovered 1.1 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately ₹17,700. A case has been registered against both under the NDPS Act.

 

TI Pradeep Arya received information that a 70-year-old man from Kabirdham district was operating an illegal ganja smuggling business while posing as a baba in the Chorbhatti area. With the help of an informant, police kept surveillance and caught Ishwar Bareth along with a woman named Kanti Pandey selling ganja.

No ganja was found during the house search, but police found the ganja hidden inside a blue drum in the accused’s farm. Both suspects were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, police arrested two more accused with ganja in the Mopka area. During interrogation, the accused revealed the name of Krishna alias Halki Shikari Pawar, a wholesale supplier from Matiyari village. On May 25, police raided the homes of Jeetan Bai Verma and Mahendra alias Bandia in Mopka, recovering 1.960 kilograms of ganja hidden under the stairs.
