Bilaspur Woman BLO Collapses During SIR Survey; Hospitalized Due to High Blood Pressure Amid Work Pressure

The intensive voter revision (SIR) survey across Bilaspur and other districts of Chhattisgarh has put significant pressure on officials and staff involved in the exercise. On Sunday, November 30, a woman supervisor and BLO (Booth Level Officer) collapsed while on duty at Tarbahar School and was rushed to the hospital. Sources said the sudden spike in her blood pressure, due to the combined stress of election-related and departmental work, caused the incident.

The supervisor’s daughter confirmed that her mother had been struggling with stress from the workload. Many officials and employees participating in the SIR survey are reportedly under high mental pressure, as the Election Commission has directed 100% survey coverage and warned of disciplinary action for negligence.

The incident occurred near the Durga Pandal at the government school in Tarbahar, where ten BLOs were on duty. Supervisor Geeta Krishnan, from the Women & Child Development Department, fainted on-site and was immediately taken to a hospital by teachers and staff. Authorities and her family were informed, and she is currently receiving treatment.

On the same day, Divisional Commissioner Sunil Jain and Collector Sanjay Agrawal conducted an inspection of the SIR survey in Bilaspur, Belhara, and Bilha assembly constituencies. They reviewed progress at over half a dozen polling stations, guided BLOs, and assessed field-level survey operations. Commissioner Jain also observed BLOs digitally submitting enumeration forms, praising the efficiency and skill of officials such as Geeta Markam, who completed the digital entry within a minute.

The officials emphasized that in the next phase of the campaign, citizens would be given the opportunity to submit claims and objections. The Collector also addressed issues faced by BLOs and instructed them to focus on registering all eligible voters, ensuring no one is left out of the electoral list.

During the inspection, it was noted that political party-appointed BLAs were showing little interest in the voter revision process. Commissioner Jain directed BLOs to formally notify the absence of BLAs and urged full participation in completing the survey efficiently.
