In Bilaspur, a late-night incident at Illume Bar on 23 November escalated into a stabbing following a dispute over alleged molestation. The injured youth was admitted to the hospital, while police apprehended the accused knife attacker. The incident took place in the Sirgitti police station area.
According to police, Nilesh Gendle of Jarhabhatha Om Nagar had gone to the bar with friends. While dancing, he allegedly misbehaved with a young woman. In response, the woman slapped him. Angered, Nilesh slapped her back. As the situation escalated, bouncers removed both parties from the bar.
The confrontation continued in the parking area, where the woman’s friends Yash Tiwari, Prashant Kashyap, and Ayush Yadav ,intervened and tried to pacify Nilesh. Instead, Nilesh began assaulting them. During the scuffle, Yash Tiwari pulled out a switchblade and stabbed Nilesh in the stomach, leaving him severely injured. The attackers fled, and the victim was rushed to the hospital.
Police soon reached the scene, identified the suspects, and arrested Yash Tiwari. Officers subjected him to strict action, after which he was seen limping. Based on information gathered during interrogation, police also detained his two friends and the young woman involved. The switchblade used in the crime was recovered from Yash.
Civil Lines CSP Nimitesh Singh stated that the woman has not filed any molestation complaint, nor have her friends lodged an assault case. If a complaint is filed, action will be taken accordingly against the concerned side.
The incident has again raised questions about late-night operations at Illume Bar, where disputes have reportedly occurred earlier as well. Frequent late-night gatherings and lack of regulatory oversight by excise officials and police continue to draw criticism.
