Raipur, CG
On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, the BJP is observing 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', calling it the darkest chapter in Indian democracy and politics. Deputy Chief Minister Saw strongly condemned the 1975 Emergency, emphasizing its lasting impact on the nation’s constitutional values and democratic spirit.
Today marks 50 years of the Emergency imposed in the country. In 1975, the government of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared this emergency, which shook the whole country. On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, BJP is celebrating 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw has called it the darkest chapter of Indian democracy and politics.
During a discussion with the media at Ekatma Parisar, BJP office, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said on the completion of 50 years of Emergency that the Emergency of 1975 is the darkest chapter of Indian democracy and politics, till now emergency has been imposed three times in India in 1962, 1971 and 1975. But the third time it was imposed for self-interest. This was the murder of democracy.
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said that in the 1971 elections, a Congress government was formed with a huge majority. During this time, the condition of the country was from bad to worse. Government officials and machinery were misused. Agitations were raging across the country, and meanwhile a petition was filed in the court. The court ruled to declare the elections invalid. Elections were not allowed to be held for six years. The Supreme Court rejected the Congress petition and declared the High Court's decision correct and then the Emergency was imposed.
Recalling the dark chapter, Deputy Chief Minister Saw said that during the 1975 Emergency, 253 journalists were arrested. One lakh people were jailed. The limit of injustice and atrocities was reached when a leader like Rajnath was not even allowed to attend his mother's funeral. Today, fifty years have passed since this period, but the behavior of the Congress party has not changed yet. Indira Gandhi pushed the country into Emergency to save the Prime Minister's chair.
