Dalpat Sagar witnessed high-energy sporting action on Sunday evening as a boat race competition brought together seasoned rowers, young प्रतिभicipants and enthusiastic spectators, turning the lakeside into a hub of excitement. The event, organised to promote water sports and local talent, was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao and Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap.
From the outset, the competition delivered a display of speed, balance and endurance. As boats cut through the water, spectators lining the banks of Dalpat Sagar cheered loudly, applauding every close finish and skillful maneuver. Officials said the turnout reflected growing public interest in traditional and adventure sports in the Bastar region.
In the senior men’s category, Satdev Baghel emerged as the winner after a consistent and controlled performance. Bali Pujari secured second place, while Puran Nag finished third. Judges noted that the senior race was closely contested, with narrow margins separating the top finishers.
The junior category also saw intense competition, underlining the depth of emerging talent. Shiv Pujari clinched first position, followed by Anuj in second place and Rajeev in third. Organisers said the strong showing by junior participants highlighted the success of local training efforts and the potential for future representation at higher-level competitions.
Women competitors added further momentum to the event, drawing special appreciation from the audience. In the women’s category, Sonam took first place with a confident performance. Kanchan finished second and Anjana secured third. The junior girls’ race was equally competitive, with Eesha Goyal winning the top spot. Malti Kashyap came in second, while Roshni finished third.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guests said such events play a vital role in encouraging youth participation in sports and in showcasing Bastar’s natural water bodies as venues for organised competitions. They stressed the need to provide better facilities and regular platforms for athletes to hone their skills.
Local officials said the boat race was conducted under safety supervision, with arrangements made for crowd management and participant support. The smooth execution of the event, they added, was the result of coordination between the sports department, local administration and volunteers.
With strong participation across age groups and categories, the Dalpat Sagar boat race has reinforced its place as a key sporting attraction in Jagdalpur. Organisers expressed hope that the competition would be expanded in the coming years, drawing participants from other districts and helping establish the city as a centre for water sports in the region.
