Bomb Threat to Jagdalpur District Court Triggers Security Alert, Police and Dog Squad Conduct Search
Digital Desk
Panic briefly gripped the Jagdalpur District and Sessions Court complex on Wednesday after authorities received a bomb threat via email, prompting the immediate evacuation of court premises and the launch of a high-level security operation. The threat, sent from an unidentified email address, warned of an explosive device planted inside the court, officials said.
The email was received during court hours, following which judges, court staff, lawyers and litigants were asked to leave the building as a precautionary measure. Police cordoned off the area and restricted public movement around the court complex while a detailed search operation was initiated.
Bastar Superintendent of Police Shalabh Kumar Sinha confirmed the receipt of the threat mail and said all standard safety protocols were activated without delay. “We received information about a threatening email sent to the court. Police teams reached the spot immediately and the entire premises are being thoroughly checked,” he said.
Teams from the local police, bomb disposal unit and dog squad were deployed to scan the court building and surrounding areas. Sniffer dogs were seen conducting checks across courtrooms, offices and entry points, while police personnel inspected vehicles parked nearby. As of the latest update, no suspicious object had been recovered.
Officials said the decision to evacuate was taken to ensure public safety and avoid any potential risk. Court proceedings were halted for the day as the search continued. Senior police officers remained stationed at the site to supervise the operation and coordinate with intelligence units.
Preliminary investigations suggest the threat mail originated from an anonymous email account. Cyber experts have been engaged to trace the source of the message and identify those responsible. Police said a case would be registered once initial verification is completed.
Security around key government buildings in Jagdalpur has been tightened following the incident. Authorities have also increased patrols in nearby areas as a precautionary step.
While bomb threats to public institutions have surfaced in the past, officials stressed that each alert is treated as a serious matter. “Even if such threats later turn out to be hoaxes, the safety of people is our top priority,” a senior police officer said.
The court administration is expected to resume normal functioning only after the premises are declared completely safe. Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.
Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses and cyber teams work to trace the origin of the threat.
