The Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Dhamtari marked World Remembrance Day with a solemn ceremony honoring victims of road accidents and promoting traffic safety awareness.
The event aimed to pay tribute to lives lost in road accidents while emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic rules. Officials highlighted the rising number of road mishaps and stressed the need for preventive measures.
World Remembrance Day
Sister Sarita of Brahma Kumaris explained that the United Nations observes World Remembrance Day annually on the third Sunday of November. She described road accidents as a major cause of social, familial, economic, and psychological distress.
“An accident affecting even a single individual can have far-reaching consequences on their entire family and the community,” she said. Sister Sarita pointed to careless driving and lack of self-discipline as primary reasons behind the increasing number of accidents, which claim millions of lives each year.
Pledge to Prevent Road Accidents
ASP Manishankar Chandra lauded the initiative, emphasizing that preventing road accidents is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement. He said collective adherence to traffic rules by the public is crucial for meaningful impact. He also appreciated the dedication of the Brahma Kumaris in raising awareness on this front.
During the program, Sister Jagruti led attendees in taking a pledge to prevent road accidents. Participants observed a moment of silence and lit candles in remembrance of the deceased.
The event was hosted by Kamini Kaushik and witnessed a large turnout, including Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Traffic, underscoring the community-wide commitment to traffic safety.
